Cairns Aquatic Club Centenary

The Cairns Aquatic Club will be 100 years old next SUNDAY 30th March 2008.

You all know it as the Cairns Yacht Club Building.
From its inception on 30th March 1908, the Aquatic has played an integral and vital role in the cultural and personal history of Far North Queensland and a vital role in its defence during World War II.

Club History

Wartime History

Over three million people have attended and danced at the Aquatic on the only genuine Black Bean sprung dance floor in Australia.

The historic book “At the Aquatic”, the Cairns Post, and many historic references through the Cairns Historical Society, point to the importance of the Cairns Aquatic Club in the foundation of the people and the City of Cairns. The  magnificent play "The Boat House" by Angela Murphy  - Inspired Poems, Painting- Photographs - and  media stories all add to the colourful History of this place soon to be  demolished to make way for "progress".

Next THURSDAY 27th the Cairns Tropic Jazz Club Inc.

will play their final night there.  This will be your last chance to have your photo taken at this Historic Jam Session led by Junior SeePoy and his Band Take 5 supported by many Jazz Musicians.

Everyione in Queensland is invited!
