Cairns Aquatic Club Centenary
The Cairns
Aquatic Club will be 100 years old next SUNDAY 30th March 2008. You all know it as the Cairns Yacht Club Building.
From its inception on 30th March 1908, the Aquatic has played an integral and
vital role in the cultural and personal history of Far North Queensland and a vital role in its
defence during World War II.
Club History Wartime History
Over three million people have attended and danced
at the Aquatic on the only genuine Black Bean sprung dance floor in Australia.
The historic book “At the Aquatic”, the Cairns Post, and many historic references
through the Cairns
Historical Society, point to the importance of the Cairns Aquatic Club in the foundation of the
people and the City of Cairns.
The magnificent play "The Boat House" by Angela Murphy - Inspired
Poems, Painting- Photographs - and media stories all add to the colourful
History of this place soon to be demolished to make way for
"progress".
Next THURSDAY
27th the Cairns Tropic Jazz Club Inc.
will play their final night there.
This will be your last chance to have your photo taken at this Historic Jam
Session led by Junior SeePoy and his Band Take 5 supported by many Jazz
Musicians.
