We want to protect the Living Aquatic Building, it is over a hundred years old and is the last Historic Building in Cairns that was built by the people.
The EPA has listed the Cairns Yacht Club (Aquatic Building) in their text and on maps as a Heritage Place. But deny us.! WHY?
2.6.1 (f) Regional Policy .. The Cairns Yacht Club
within Key Coastal Site 10. Page 63 on the PDF file see ref 2.6.1. (f ).

The Cairns Yacht Club (Aquatic) meets those criteria hands down.
On 30th March 2008 the Aquatic Club will be 100 years old. A genuine Centenary Celebration is called for and the Governor General of Australia will be asked for the recognition of the Queen.

The question on everyones lips is, What is the Environmental Agency going to do about the Aquatic in the face of 5,000 people and the facts that put the Aquatic History well in front of the Wharf and White's Shed Heritage listed by the same EPA?
Now it seems to me, if The Embroiderers Guild got in, there is no question that the Aquatic should make it with its rich 100 year history and involvement in both wars with its members serving as the Harbour Master, Mayors of the City and prominent businesmen holding Chairs in Australian Sugar Board etc, after which Cairns streets were named.

If you think the Queensland Government is taking the people of Cairns for a ride with what little Heritage we have left after the Cairns Port Authority has walled off the City from Trinity Bay, write to the local Member The Hon Desley Boyle and tell her what you feel.
