It is important to understand that the Cairns Yacht Club Inc (The Club) will be moving out of this building to another new building being buiult by the Cairns Port Authority for the Cairns Yacht Club thus leaving the old building vacant until it is disposed of.
The Aquatic Building (Cairns Yacht Club Building) is
Located at No. 4 Wharf Street Cairns opposite the Cairns Reef Casino.
The real property description is :
Lot 10 on SP113633
Lot 15 on SP1122865
and delineated on plan commissioned by the Environmental Protection Agency IS174589
The Heritage Listing was defeated under very contentious circumstances. But the Cairns people have not accepted that this Historic Building is not worthy of Heritage Listing.
INFORMATION. The Building will be demolished and NOT moved to the new seven million dollar Yacht Club Site at the Eastern side of the pier.
The Cairns Yacht Club Inc, (The Club) has said it will move out of the Aquatic Building at years end.
Disclaimer:: The Cairns Tropic Jazz Club
has a vested interest in seeing the Aquatic preserved. The CTJC plays
there every Thursday Night and have done so for 174 weeks. Musician
Members of the Jazz Club have played the Aquatic as far back as 1938
(69 years). Furthermore the Aquatic Club will be 100 years old on 30th
March 2008. Timbers in the building date back to 1895. The Cairns
Tropic Jazz Club committee has granted me permission to tell the story
of the Aquatic Building through these pages. The views and facts
