Water Supplies in the Cairns Region are sourced from Dams, Rivers and
Aquifers (Underground water).
The Cairns Regional Council Water Authority doses the water with Chlorine, Fluoride and other Chemicals to disinfect and clear the water as much as possible .
These products are called ADDITIVES.Despite the carefull proceedures, sometimes accidents occur and the water is overdosed or underdosed.
DISINFECTION causes by-products in the filtration cycle, when they interact with dead leaves, animal poo, or other organic material. Disinfection by- products can cause bladder cancer.
Road Run Off can carry such Metals as Lead, Zinc,Iron, Copper,Cadmium, Chromium, Nickel,Fertilizers and Organo-Phosphates.
These are not filtered out in the Filtration Cycle and most over the counter Filtering System dont filter them out either. Whilst the Filtration Cycle treats most Pathogens, and Bacteria, it has been seen recently that Chlorine does not kill the Criptosporidium Bacteria.Most times the water has to be boiled... And if you are going to do that you may as well go the next step and distill it.
Aluminium Hydroxide may be used as a
flocculating precipitate to clear the water, Iron
Furthermore, just boiling your water does not eliminate FLUORIDE!
