 The Institute of Medicine advises that men should consume roughly 3 liters (about 13 cups) of total beverages a day and women consume 2.2 liters (about 9 cups) of total beverages a day.

When you are excercising and losing moisture in perspiration you should replace the electrolytes with beverages like Gator Aid, Staminade, Poweraid etc. in the recommended dosages. Sometimes peole who have lost a lot of moisture through excertion feel sick to the stomach. This can be an indication of lack of Electrolytes and sugar.
