MUSICIANS CHRISTMAS PARTY SUCCESS.

  • It was a great night at the Cairns Tropic Jazz Club last night.
  • A very full program was organized by Gerry Miers and opened at 7.00 pm with the Smithfield High Stage Band. The Reeds front line was supplemented by 3 Baritone Saxs. Wow.. The two young students swapping on the keybord were impressive, lets face it the whole group was electric!  The band was under the direction of Jason Fox the musical Director at Smithfield High.
  • The second on stage was the Music Teachers Big Band and that was awesome. Jack Dale – Trombone player with the Barrier Reef Jazz Band and a player for some 50 years was full of praise for the talent of the players.
  • Out Of The Blue carried on with Julie and Jim showing why they rate as International Artists.
  • The Barrier Reef Jazz Band turned in its polished performance,
  • Cool Change followed with changes in the tempo, and genre.
  • The new Vegas Band did well and was followed up with Take 5 and the magic of Wilma Reading.
  • All this for $5 entry and the chance to win the Christmas Hamper and many minor prizes of bottles of wine.
  •  I invited the students and teachers to keep playing and bring their talents to the Jazz Club. Students should never give up their music because the Western world needs them. Think about who backs vocalists like Kylie Minogue, Michael Buble, Johnny Farnham, they are musicians who started in school bands or picked up an instrument and started playing in a Jazz Band somewhere.
  • The general public, disadvantaged, disabled, people in rest homes, kids in dire straits won't ever hear our music if you put your instruments in a cupboard.
  • I say to every player again. Don’t waste your talents, establish a conduit between yourselves and the musicians in the Jazz Club, we need you and the emotional benefits are enormous.
  • The parents and members of the Jazz Club make up an important part of our organization. They are the ones who give support and encouragement and in turn feel the emotional experience of seeing and hearing their children and other experienced musicians perform for them.
  • Cairns Region and the Cairns Tropic Jazz Club Inc. is the envy of virtually every other Jazz Club in Australia and whilst I and my excellent committee together with our Patron, Val Schier, frost a mirror, we intend to keep it growing.
  • I am applying for Grants to stage a Jazz Festival in November 2010. Every able bodied musician will be needed to perform form now till then. Workshops will be organized.
  •          See me at the Jazz Club or call 0418 774 175.
