ADAPTIVE RE-USE:

Saving a building often depends on ”adaptive re-use“

– coming up with a way to make it pay. .

Here are some examples of how to make the AQUATIC pay.

  • The first step is to bring the building up to the architects sketch.
  • The building should be raised two metres.
  • A Museum designed to attract local and overseas visitors should be installed under, in a Ben Cropp type Sea theme. Such can enshrine some of the Endeavour Artifacts and WW2 items he has stashed away.
  • A decent Salt Water Aquarium could be installed and feature several varieties of Clown Fish and other spectacular coloured salt water fishes, like Harlequin Tusk Fish etc.
  • DVD Films of Captain Cook.
  • DVD Tourism Encouragement Films of the greater Cairns Area, Mt. Mulligan, Chillago, Malanda. Millaa, Mareeba, Forsyth, Agate Creek, Cooktown, etc.
  • The Chinese Connection - History of our Chinese Ancestry
  • Beachfront Coffee Boutique on the boardwalk
  • Upstairs Bar and Dance Area let out for Dinners and Public Meetings
  • The Bistro
  • A Lift has to be installed.

Peoples of the world are realizing that the Built Environment (Heritage Buildings) are valuable.

Architects everywhere are saying that buildings with Heritage and Cultural ties with the past should be preserved.
But just 'saving" a building is not enough.
We must find ways to make it pay by adaptive re-use.
The Cairns Yacht Club (Aquatic) Building has the potential to be re-adapted for use .

These are just a few ideas for the Heritage Building.
